Hip hop is a dance style that has grown in popularity over the years. This is partly due to the fact that it is a very funky style that appeals to people of all ages and body types. Hip hop can be seen in many music videos and it is also a staple on modern dance shows such as So You Think You Can Dance. However, there is much more to hip hop than what is shown on television. It is a rich culture and has a history that spans decades.

Unlike ballet, which has its roots in classical music, hip hop has its roots in popular culture. This makes it very unique and a lot of fun to learn. There are many different moves that can be done within this style and most of them have their own names and history behind them. Breaking is the original form of hip hop dancing and it consists of five core movements: top rocks, back rocks, fast footwork, freezes and power moves. This is often accompanied by a DJ spinning tracks and an “MC,” or Master of Ceremonies, who will hype up the crowd and freestyle rap with the music.

Popping and locking are two other forms of hip hop dancing that are very popular. These styles are quick and energetic and are a great way to express emotions. They involve the rapid contraction of muscles to create a jerking effect in the dancer’s body and can be performed on any part of the body. Locking is similar to popping but involves the dancer holding positions for longer periods of time.
