A dance lesson is an hour-long class given by a professional instructor. The instructor helps the students to learn the different styles of dancing and gives them an insight about how to take care of their body while learning the moves. Usually, a dance lesson starts with the warm-up exercise to relax the muscles. This is followed by the basic steps and then the complicated steps. The students have to remember the choreography and practice it until they become confident enough to perform in front of their family members and friends.
During the lessons, the tutor will try to inspire the students rather than reprimand them. This way, they will feel more comfortable and keep coming back to the classes. Moreover, students will be more eager to learn new things when they don’t feel that they are being judged by the instructor.
Students today are accustomed to getting information quickly, from the media and the Internet, so they get impatient with long explanations. Hence, it is better for teachers to use the fewest words possible that will convey the essential concepts.
Some students may be a bit uncomfortable with certain movements, especially those from Asia or India who are not used to close embraces in couple dancing or sustained direct eye contact. However, the teacher should be careful not to push them so far out of their comfort zone that they will stop attending dance classes. Instead, the teacher can encourage them to dance with other partners, slow down the tempo and simplify memorization tasks.
