There are so many dances out there for us to try, but it can be overwhelming knowing where to start. Whether it’s an in-person class or online videos, there are dancers of all levels showing off moves that look effortless and complex. While there’s no way to master all of these movements at once, there are some tips and tricks that can help you pick up choreography faster and more easily.
One of the best things you can do is to pay attention to your surroundings and the other dancers on the floor. If you’re not sure what to do with your arms, look at the other dancers. This will give you ideas for what to do with your hands, and how to match your moves to the music.
Also, be sure to take time to warm up. Jumping straight into movement without waking up your body first can make you sore and possibly risk injury. So, before you head into class, do some dynamic stretches, lunges, jumping jacks, or even just a few push ups to get your body moving and ready for the work ahead of it!
Another thing to keep in mind is that smiling can really help you look confident on the floor. Even if you’re nervous, it will communicate to the judges that you are in control and know what you’re doing. So, plant that smile on your face throughout your entire audition, and remember to practice it before you go out to dance!
