By now, “Fancy Like” is on just about everyone’s summer country song playlists. And that’s thanks to the singer’s trending dance routine on TikTok. Walker Hayes’ dad/daughter duo video of themselves dancing to the song, a track from his newest EP, Country Stuff, has garnered millions of views. It’s so popular, in fact, that the singer has even found himself being reenacted by the likes of Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on TODAY.
While the copycat videos have exploded online, Hayes admits his viral success caught him by surprise. He says it’s a little bit odd to see people walking by his modest house and snapping pictures of the front porch where he and his daughter learned their moves.
Despite the unexpected success, Hayes is enjoying his newfound fame. And he says one of his favorite things about it is that he’s been able to fulfill a promise he made to his kids.
When they were at Lowe’s a few years ago, Hayes’ children wanted Christmas blow ups for their backyard. The singer told them he couldn’t afford to buy them then, but if his next song went number one, he’d get each of them their very own. Now that “Fancy Like” has reached the top of the charts, he’s been able to do just that. And he doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon.
