Mark your movements (or “spots”) with partial gestures
When learning new choreography, it can be hard to memorize all of the moves without external prompting. To help yourself remember the steps, make micro-movements with your hands or feet and fill in the rest of the movement with your imagination.
Connect to lyrics, rhythms, and sounds
Using words, labels, or keywords as a reference can help you connect your dance to the song. This may sound obvious, but it’s an important tool in creating a memorable choreography that people will want to perform again and again.
Keep your balancing fluid and graceful
When you’re learning new moves, focus on keeping them smooth and fluid instead of stiff or awkward. This will help you become a better dancer over time, regardless of the style you’re practicing.
Fall out of turns
In order to perform a pirouette, you need to be able to “fall out” of it and return back to the ground. It’s not easy to master, but it’s an essential skill that will help you succeed in your dance goals.
Keep up with your training
You’ll need to work on your strength and flexibility regularly to be a strong dancer. Doing so will strengthen your body and mind, which will improve your confidence as a dancer.
