Throughout history, there have been many popular dances that have captured the imagination of people all over the world. Whether they are swaying in the street or dancing at a bar, these dances have become part of our cultural heritage.
The Foxtrot
The foxtrot was first developed in the 1910s and was a huge hit at Vaudeville shows. It was a fast-paced dance that was easy to do and could be adapted to different musical styles.
Suzie Q
The Suzie Q is a fun and fast couples dance that can be done solo or in a group. It consists of only four steps and requires practitioners to keep their hands low and clasped or with their fingers interlocked.
Macarena
If you were alive in 1993, you can probably recite the Macarena without even having to look at the lyrics. This highly choreographed dance ruled the dance floors of that decade, and was one of the most iconic of its time.
Twist
In the 1960s, rock ‘n roll took over from jazz and prohibition in popularity. Teenagers were embraced by this music, which was played on jukeboxes and 45’s rather than live bands.
There was a huge variety of new dances coming from this new generation. They were all hip and trendy, and they were easy to learn.
Dougie
This is a quick and easy dance that’s great for any song. Start by stepping down alternately with your right and left foot as you sway side to side. After you finish swaying, move your arms to the left and right as you repeat the move.
