If you’ve been on the internet at all in 2021, chances are you heard Walker Hayes’ hit song “Fancy Like.” And you probably watched a TikTok of him and his daughter doing their viral dance to it. The video has more than 1.4 million likes and people all over the world have been recreating the dance. The choreography is similar to men’s fancy dancing, which requires strength and stamina. It involves synchronized moves and usually features brightly colored regalia.
In an attempt to beat pandemic boredom, Hayes and his teen daughter came up with the dance to go along with the song. The video blew up and caught the attention of Applebee’s, which used it in their commercial campaign to promote their reintroduction of their Oreo shake. The chain also named-dropped the shake in the lyrics of the song.
Now, the father-daughter duo has returned to their front porch for a new video, recreating their original Fancy Like dance in honor of their huge success. They’re even celebrating the release of their dad’s album Country Stuff.
It was never a sure bet that “Fancy Like” would succeed on country radio. With its more pop production and novelty feel, the track could have been written off as too different for country audiences. But it blasted into the top 10 and has spent six months there, all while topping every sales and streaming chart. It’s the biggest single of Hayes’ career and a true viral sensation.
